Book Jazz

Is the Jazz Piano book by Mark Levine only suited for advanced pianists?
I’m pretty much a beginner and after looking at some of the reviews of this book, I’m starting to second guess whether I should buy it.
This book assumes that you know how to read music and have the basic rudiments of theory. If you are a jazz beginner studying with a teacher or a classical player switching to jazz then this book is ok. The book has a lot of chord and melodic pattern illustrations with comments and descriptions beside each.
Mark Levine says in the intro of the book, that it is an “aid to understanding harmony.” Much of this book involves music theory.
Truly not a beginner’s book if you are starting to learn to read music or at entry level in music (say less than a year of learning piano).
Try instead:
Jazz Piano Method by Jean Robur
ISBN: 0793500532
Jazz & Pop Piano Paradise series by Fishel Pustilnik
ISBN: 0921965230
Or go to your local music store and ask the assistant for recommendations, what is best suited for your level or visit the library if it has a score and tuition section (I think the books are located at 780 and 781 on the dewey system) to see what’s out there.
Hope that helps you.
